Experience amazing scenery as you travel through the Rockies where snow sprinkled mountain tops reflect in glistening lakes; feel the thunder of mighty Niagara Falls and soak up the eclectic atmosphere of cities like Toronto and Montréal. And do all this by rail, travelling on the prestigious Rocky Mountaineer and VIA rail’s famed Canadian and Ocean trains.

  1. Day 1

    Vancouver - Kamloops Rocky Mountaineer

    Board the Rocky Mountaineer (SilverLeaf for superior grade guests and GoldLeaf for deluxe) for the scenic rail journey to Kamloops in the interior of British Columbia. Pass through the rich fields of the Fraser River Valley and the towering peaks of the Coastal Mountains before entering the Fraser Canyon. Follow the Thompson River through spectacular landscapes to historic Kamloops. (B, L)

  2. Day 2

    Kamloops - Banff

    Back on-board the Rocky Mountaineer following the South Thompson River to Shuswap Lake with its thousand miles of shoreline. Pass Craigellachie, where the ‘last spike’ was driven completing the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1885. Enter Rogers Pass, with its tunnels, snow-sheds and glistening Glaciers. The Kicking Horse River leads you to Kicking Horse Pass, the Spiral Tunnels and over the Continental Divide to Banff. (B, L)

  3. Day 3

    Morning sightseeing tour of Banff

    This morning, tour the town of Banff. Among the highlights are visits to the Hoodoos (shaped by centuries of wind) & Bow Valley Viewpoint, Surprise Corner, Bow Falls and Lake Minnewankal past. At the end of the tour you will be taken to the Banff Gondola for a breathtaking ascent to the pinnacle of Sulphur Mountain for an awe-inspiring 360-degree panorama of sheer mountain majesty. Make your own way back to your hotel at your leisure.

  4. Day 4

    Banff - Lake Louise

    Depart Banff early afternoon for a short drive via the scenic Bow Valley to Lake Louise.

  5. Day 5

    Lake Louise - Jasper

    Travel by coach today via one of the most scenic highways in North America - the Icefields Parkway. Visit the Columbia Icefield that covers an area of nearly 125 square miles and reaches a depth of 1050 feet. Enjoy a ride on the Athabasca Glacier and a visit to the award-winning Glacier Skywalk to experience a glass-floored observation platform 918 feet over spectacular glacier-formed valleys and rushing waterfalls. Photo stops along the Parkway will be made at Bow & Peyto Lakes, the Crowfoot Glacier and the Athabasca Falls. This highway is renowned for sightings of bears, elk, moose & mountain sheep, so keep your camera handy. Please note: mountain lakes in this region will be frozen through to mid-June. (PL)

  6. Day 6

    VIA Rail The Canadian Jasper - Toronto

    Spend the day relaxing in the mountain town of Jasper. This evening board VIA Rail’s ‘Canadian’ for the famous train journey across the prairies to Toronto. (D) Accommodation for 3 nights: Sleeper Touring Class
    By day, sit back in comfortable seating and enjoy the stretch out comfort of your very own accommodation. At night attendants will transform your quarters into a bedroom. Guests have access to the Park Car, always at the tail end of the train whose tapered shape gives the car its distinctive look.

  7. Day 7

    On-board VIA Rail

    Watch the scenery change as you leave the mountains for the prairies and great plains of Canada. Overnight on-board the train. (B, L, D)

    Today is spent crossing the scenic lake lands of northern Ontario. (B, L, D)

  9. Day 9

    Arrive Toronto

    Arrive in Toronto this morning at 9.30; the rest of the day is yours to explore Canada’s largest and most diverse city. Suggested places to visit include the Eaton Centre, Chinatown, CN Tower, and Old and New City Halls with opportunity for pictures along the way. (B)

  10. Day 10

    Niagara Falls Day Tour

    Enjoy a breathtaking, full-day coach tour through the orchard-laden Niagara Peninsula to Niagara Falls, one of the great wonders of the world. Tour includes: Hornblower Niagara Falls Cruise or Journey Behind the Falls, a meal overlooking Niagara Falls, free time in Niagara on the Lake and a winery tour including a wine tasting. (L)

  11. Day 11

    Toronto - Montréal

    Enjoy the facilities of the Business class lounge while waiting to board your train; complimentary newspapers and non-alcoholic beverages are available in the lounge. Follow the shores of Lake Ontario, one of the five Great Lakes of North America, to Trenton Junction, where the St. Lawrence River flows from the lake. Passing the village of Napanee, view a series of beautiful waterfalls. The city of Kingston is an historic Canadian city, being the early capital of the “Province of Canada” (1841-1867) and is the birthplace of Canada’s first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald. Here, you cross the Rideau Canal, built in 1832 to connect Kingston with Ottawa and was originally designed after the War of 1812 to guarantee a supply route north of the US border in the event of another war. Past Cornwall, the line enters the Province of Québec. Approaching Montréal, cross the Ottawa River to Dorval, before arriving at Central Station in Montréal. (L)

  12. Day 12

    Québec City Sightseeing Tour

    The only walled city in North America, Québec City is over 400 years old making it one of North America’s oldest cities. This picturesque city is a UNESCO World Heritage site and only 3 hours away from Montréal. The cobbled streets are bursting with fantastic boutiques, unforgettable bistros and historic sites. Walk along the promenade outside the Hotel Château Frontenac for amazing views over the mighty St Lawrence River and the old Lower Town. Visit Le Petit Champlain, a commercial shopping street where local Québécois arts, crafts and produce are sold. Québec City is the heart of French Canada. Nowhere else in North America is the appearance and atmosphere of an old-world city so complete. Today qualified guides will help you discover the enchanting sights which are part of Québec City’s history. Return to Montréal for the evening.

  13. Day 13

    Montréal - Halifax

    Spend the day at leisure sightseeing in Montréal before boarding VIA Rail’s the Ocean to Halifax in the early evening. Montréal is a city full of flair, style and inspiring fashion, with Montréalers effortlessly combining high street, vintage and designer elements to create their own style. Montréal is a shopper’s paradise with one of the longest and most diverse shopping streets in North America – Rue St Catherine. Explore the cobblestone streets of Vieux Montréal and enjoy its lively café society. (D) Overnight on VIA Rail sleeper plus private bedroom.     On-board VIA Rail - Halifax

    Arrive in Halifax this afternoon. The capital of Nova Scotia and the largest city in Canada’s Maritime Provinces, Halifax deftly blends the past with the present to produce a skyline dotted with elegant 18th- and 19th-century architecture alongside ultra-modern towers of glass and steel. The heart of Halifax is perfect for exploring on foot, with international restaurants, galleries, libraries and museums. Inviting sidewalk cafés beckon you to
