Reachable ONLY by hiking 27 kms or by flying in by helicopter (you’ll take the helicopter!) the limited access guarantees semi-seclusion in Mt. Assiniboine Provincial Park, famous for its meadows and easy hiking peaks lying below Canada’s Matterhorn. This relaxed hiking tour is for those interested in experiencing days of walking in this beautiful sub-alpine region along with the simplicity of life that comes with camping in the meadows. There are not many areas where it is possible to do this and yet avoid carrying the heavier backpack usually required to visit such a place.

Your Itinerary

Day 1 : Fly to Mount Assiniboine

This morning you will be transferred from Canmore to the Canmore heliport (included). At 8.30am you’ll meet your guide at the Canmore heliport. You’ll go over the trip details with you and check to see that you are properly outfitted before packing and getting ready for a 12.30pm flight. Twenty kilometers and an eight minutes helicopter flight leaves you a world away in a land  of lush meadows, turquoise lakes, snow covered glaciers and rocky peaks. You’ll fly from Spray Lakes in Kananaskis Country, to British Columbia’s Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park, landing right beside the historic Lodge. You’ll will carry your gear to the campground, a level 1.5 km away. After settling in and taking a bit of a break, you will head out for the remainder of the day to explore a bit and get a feel for the area. Most guests usually like to enjoy the view and peacefulness of Lake Magog with some tea from the Lodge.

Overnight: Magog Lake Campground at an altitude of 2,200m (7,200ft)

Day 2 : Og pass and Windy Ridge

One of the great day hike in the Park is to reach Og pass and continue on Windy Ridge. As you gain altitude, the feeling of having the world under your feet grows. This trail will challenge your cardio, but have time to take it at our rhythm. And the effort is constantly being rewarded as every step brings in an even more wonderful scenery.

Elevation Gain: 500m. Distance: 17km. Duration: 5-6hrs

Day 3 : Nub Peak

Have you ever wondered what spot the most famous shots of Mt Assiniboine were taken from? Let your amateur photo skills go free and capture this impressive 3,618m peak in all its glory from Nub Peak, the photographers first choice for framing ‘the Matterhorn of the Rockies’. You will also trek along some of the pristine glacier-fed lakes of the area before heading back to camp.

Elevation Gain: 545m. Distance: 14km. Duration: 6hrs

Day 4 : Wonder Pass and Fly out

After an early morning breakfast, you will leave your gear at the Lodge and head towards Wonder Pass to get a view at Marvel Lake in the valley below you. This makes a perfect final day walk and you will have time to breathe in nature before departure. Guest usually meet up in Canmore for a last dinner together in one of the restaurant (not included).
