Day 1 : Calgary - Banff (75 miles)
Upon arrival into Calgary, collect your rental car and begin your Rockies adventure. Take the short drive from Calgary to Banff on either the Trans-Canada Highway or the more scenic 1A Highway. The remainder of the day is yours to explore.
Day 2 : Banff
A full day to explore Banff and area, in town you’ll find lots of things to do. Perhaps you’ll browse the shops along Banff Avenue, take on optional helicopter tour over the majestic Rockies, visit one of the charming local cafés, dine out, or just relax and enjoy the facilities in your hotel. If you’re feeling adventurous why not try a canoe trip on the bow river, or for a more serene experience try a float trip and look for wildlife along the river banks. Check out the Cave and Basin National Historic Site, Banff Gondola (included) where you will see a panoramic view of the Bow Valley, or take a dip in the hot pools at the Upper Hot Springs.
Day 3 : Banff - Emerald Lake Lodge (70 miles)
Depart Banff today and travel along the lovely Bow Valley Parkway for a leisurely drive. Journey past the “Jewel of the Rockies,” Lake Louise through majestic mountain passes into Yoho National Park. The park is home to vertical rock walls, waterfalls and dizzying peaks that draw visitors from around the world.
Emerald Lake Lodge is built of hand-hewn timber and featuring massive stone fireplaces is located on the shores of Emerald Lake. Since its construction in the early 20th Century, the Canadian government has permitted no further development in the area and the setting is truly breathtaking, pure idyllic isolation and even your mobile will refuse to work here. The historic main lodge houses two restaurants, games and reading rooms, and a quiet lounge.
Accommodation is in chalet-style buildings dotted throughout the grounds, and to preserve the tranquillity there’s no TV in the rooms and vehicles are not permitted within the boundaries of the resort. A shuttle runs from the main parking area to the Lodge building.
Day 4 : Emerald Lake - Lake Louise (40 miles)
Return back through scenic mountain passes to Lake Louise, the most famous glacial lake in the Canadian Rockies and one of the most beautiful in the Western Hemisphere. This natural phenomenon is simply stunning; the emerald green lake and surrounding rugged peaks of mountains and glaciers make for an unforgettable experience. You may wish to enjoy a hike on one of the numerous trails around the lake or paddle a canoe.
Day 5 : Lake Louise - Jasper (130 miles)
Today, travel through the spine of the Canadian Rockies along the amazing Icefield Parkway. You’re sure to be enthralled by the scenery, wildlife, incredible blue lakes and sparkling waterfalls en route (please note: mountain lakes in this region will be frozen through to mid June). A stop at Peyto Lake along the way is a must. Don’t miss the Columbia Icefield for a ride onto the Athabasca Glacier on board an Ice Explorer (included) before continuing your journey to Jasper.
Day 6 : Jasper
A free day to explore this charming mountain village close to many scenic highlights. Take a tram ride up Whistlers mountain, or visit Maligne Lake, one of the most photographed lakes in the world, and enjoy a 90 minute cruise heading toward the south end of this postcard setting (Maligne Lake cruise not included).
Day 7 : Jasper
Another free day to enjoy Jasper and the amenities of the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge.
Day 8 : Jasper - Rocky Mountaineer - Kamloops
This morning drop your rental vehicle off at the Avis rental office in Jasper, before boarding the Rocky Mountaineer for a scenic rail journey to Kamloops in the interior of British Columbia. Leaving Jasper National Park, travel the ‘Yellowhead’ route past the sprawling grandeur of Mount Robson the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies’ and follow the mighty Thompson River, the route of early fur traders, before arriving in Kamloops. As you cross the stunning scenery of the Canadian Rockies, pass glistening snow-capped peaks and deep blue glacier fed lakes that reflect the sky above and their mountain surrounding, cascading waterfalls and soaring forests, keep an eye out for abundant wildlife - bears, moose and mountain sheep.
Day 9 : Kamloops - Rocky Mountaineer - Vancouver
Leaving Kamloops follow the Thompson River, pass through Rainbow Canyon and Fraser Canyon, where at Hells Gate watch water torrent past the canyon walls at its narrowest point. The last leg of the journey takes you through the fertile farming region of the Fraser Valley to arrive in the Pacific port of Vancouver late afternoon.
Day 10 : Vancouver
A free day to explore Vancouver, voted the world’s third most liveable city and most liveable in Canada; a young, friendly city with countless natural charms in close proximity. Shop on chic Robson Street or explore the funky Granville Island with its market and artists enclave; visit the city’s vast array of museums; walk or cycle around the 1000-acre Stanley Park or visit quaint and atmospheric Gastown. Discover the surrounding peaks of the Coastal Mountains or go whale watching on the Pacific Ocean. Dining is a delight and a dilemma, there’s so many restaurants and cuisines to choose from; the nightlife so varied you’ll be spoiled for choice.
Day 11 : Victoria Day Excursion by Floatplane
Depart Vancouver harbour by floatplane for an exciting flight over the Gulf Islands to beautiful Victoria. The day is free to explore Victoria, with its turn of the century architecture, British traditions such as high tea and shops full of woollens and china. Optional tours while in Victoria include Whale Watching, Butchart Gardens or enjoy high tea at the Fairmont Empress Hotel. (Optional tours are not included) Return to Vancouver on a scheduled afternoon flight.
Day 12 : Vancouver
A free day to relax and enjoy the sights of the city.
Day 13 : Vancouver - Departure
Check out from your hotel and transfer (included) to Vancouver Airport for your return or onward flight.
Tour also available in the reverse direction from Vancouver to Calgary. Please note: Mountain lakes will be frozen until mid-June.
