First Class Experiences: Keir Ashley onboard Rocky Mountaineer

The world-famous Rocky Mountaineer is one of the most incredible rail journeys, travelling through the awe-inspiring Canadian Rockies, with their towering peaks, azure glacial lakes, cascading waterfalls, and stunning vistas. Keir, one of our fantastic travel experts here at First Class Holidays, shares his amazing experience onboard Rocky Mountaineer with us.

Vancouver to Calgary

Keir’s experience started in Vancouver, where he spent two nights exploring the wonders of this cosmopolitan city. Before his adventure onboard Rocky Mountaineer, he visited Granville Island, Stanley Park, and the Capilano Suspension Bridge.

Then, he travelled with Rocky Mountaineer GoldLeaf Service to Banff, spending one night in Kamloops. There, Keir visited Yoho National Park, Lake Louise, the Banff Gondola, Emerald Lake and an extraordinary tour of the Fairmont Banff Springs. Finally, the last stop was in Calgary, where he toured the city and Heritage Park.

Rocky Mountaineer: First Passage to the West

“This was my first train journey and after selling so much of it at FCH, it did not disappoint. Everything was so seamless from having your baggage collected in the morning and it arriving in your hotel room before you got there, to the boarding and the service on board.”

Keir recommends GoldLeaf Service without a doubt: the added extras such as the outdoor viewing platform, having breakfast and lunch in the separate downstairs dining room and much more, make this experience even more remarkable.

“For an experience like Rocky Mountaineer, I would encourage people to spend more of their budget on the train rather than the hotels, as the train experience is unmatched. Being able to stand outside whilst the train was going through the Rockies and also the spiral tunnels outside of Banff was probably the stand-out moment for me."

In addition, Keir also highlights the outstanding service on board, attention to detail and amazing staff focused on providing the best possible service and making sure everybody was well attended.

“There was never a moment when we weren’t without a drink or some form of delicious snack throughout the day, and the stories and history that the staff relay to you during the day really helps you appreciate the surroundings that you are experiencing.”

Furthermore, Rocky Mountaineer is also well-known for the amazing quality of food and beverage options – what is not to love about sitting and watching the scenery of the Canadian Rockies go by without anything to worry about?

Keir not only would come back and do it again, but he also recommends this experience to everyone, especially both couples young and old, groups of friends, honeymooners and single travellers who are ready for a one-in-a-life experience with amazing service, cuisine and, of course, landscapes of the Canadian Rockies.
