Held annually over the first three weekends of February with it next on Feb 1 – 18, 2019, the capital will transform itself into a winter wonderland with fun filled events, drawing in visitors from all over the world. 1. The Rideau Canal Skateway

The historic Rideau Canal becomes the world’s largest skating rink spanning over 4.8 miles. With the route starting steps away from Canada’s Parliament Buildings, you can take in the magnificent views as you skate through the heart of the capital extending to Dow’s Lake. If you need a quick warm up there’s many heated change huts on the way along with various stands that offer hot soup and warming drinks to keep you cosy and warm.

2. Foodie Events

For all the foodies, you’ll love the unique culinary events created by the some of the capital's best local restaurants. Stock up on great tips from sitting by the chef demonstrations, educate yourself on the best wine and food pairings and stop off at the delicious walkabout winter feasts that are available.

3. Snowflake Kingdom

Held at the Jacques-Cartier Park in Gatineau, visitors can enjoy this huge winter playground by taking part in activities that include snow slides, dogsledding, magnificent snow sculptures, shows and much more. The Ice Hog Family, the beloved mascots of Winterlude can be found here whilst visiting the capital each year and love to give out hugs! A perfect day for the entire family.
 

4. Ice Dragon Boat Festival

Join athletes and spectators alike as the Ice Dragon Boat Festival comes back for the second time on Feb 8-9 2019. Held on the famous Dow’s Lake, the fun event originates from the traditional sport of dragon boat racing while the 'ice dragon boat' glides across the frozen lake surface - all the fun but a superb twist.

5. International Ice-Carving Competition

Expect unbelievable ice sculptures carved by professional carvers from all over the world at the York Street plaza. You can really imagine the impossible when it comes to what these talented carvers can create just out of ice and you won’t be anything but short of impressed. Thousands vote and winners are chosen online – who will it be next year?
