A Self-Drive Journey Through the Rockies
On this unique self-drive itinerary of the Alberta Rockies, discover the unforgettable Bugaboos, as you embark on a Heli-hiking adventure. Leave the crowds behind as you’re flown to a remote backcountry lodge, amongst towering spires and breathtaking mountain scenery. Return to ground level to continue your drive along the Icefields Parkway, before arriving in Jasper to be immersed in another of Canada’s magnificent national parks. End in Canada’s festival city of Edmonton.

Your Itinerary
Day 1 : Calgary to Banff (72 miles)
Arrive in Calgary and collect your rental car. Take the short drive to Banff and check in for a 2-night stay.
Day 2 : Banff
Today is free for you to explore Banff. You may wish to take a ride on the Banff Gondola for sweeping 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains, or simply stroll Banff Avenue with its vibrant atmosphere, shops and restaurants.
Day 3 : Banff to Heli-Hiking Lodge
Depart Banff through Banff and Kootenay National Parks en route to the Bugaboos Helipad. Park your car and be flown to the lodge, just in time for lunch and a quick orientation. You’ll then embark on your first afternoon of hiking in some of the world’s most stunning mountains. Return to the lodge for apres-hiking snacks before dinner, or perhaps take a dip in the hot tub.
Day 4-5 : Heli Hiking
Set out by helicopter each day after breakfast to explore the landscapes. Your guide will tailor the experience to everyone’s ability. Enjoy packed lunches in the field before returning to the lodge for dinner, served family-style each evening to swap stories of the day with your fellow hikers.
Day 6-7 : Lake Louise
Depart Bugaboos Lodge by helicopter today, and then take the drive to Lake Louise where you’ll spend the night. Canada’s jewel in the Rockies, Lake Louise is truly mesmerising. Take a walk around the turquoise waters before checking into your hotel for the next 2 nights.
Day 8 : Jasper (145 miles)
Drive the Icefields Parkway today on your way to Jasper. Included is an Ice Explorer ride on the glacier and the Glacier Skywalk. Spend the next 2 nights in Jasper.
Day 9 : Jasper
Today if free to explore the mountain town of Jasper. You may wish to take a scenic float trip on the Athabasca River, tracing the route of the fur traders centuries ago, or enjoy a wildlife tour.
Day 10 : Edmonton (226 miles)
Take the drive to Edmonton today, Canada’s ‘Festival City’. Leave the National park behind as you begin to pass through wide open landscapes. Arrive in the city for the night.
Day 11 : Edmonton departure
Your tour comes to an end as you return your car at the airport in time for your departure flight.
