Day 14
Day 1 : Whitehorse
On arrival into Whitehorse, make your way to your hotel for a 2-night stay.
Day 2 : Whitehorse
Today is a free day to acclimatise to the great wilderness of the Yukon as you spend time in Whitehorse. Steeped in culture and history, Whitehorse has a vibrant arts community and top tourist services. You may wish to add on an excursion, such as a day trip on the White Pass and Yukon Railway to Skagway, or a half-day wildlife and hot springs tour. Our team will be able to make recommendations.
Day 3 : Dawson City
Head to the Canadream depot today to collect your vehicle, as you embark on your drive on the wide-open Yukon roads. Head north to Dawson City as you pass through the vast, wild, mountainous landscapes as you discover why this is the perfect place for a road trip. Don’t rush the drive – stop at Five Finger Rapids where a boardwalk leads down to the Yukon River for a spectacular view, with numerous other pullouts offering views over the mountains and valleys.
Day 4-5 : Dawson City
Days spent in Dawson City will leave you feeling as though you’ve stepped back in time to the days of the gold rush. You can even pan for your own gold at a free claim just outside the town. Spend a couple of days exploring Dawson City’s historic buildings, take in a can-can show or venture to Tombstone Territorial Park just an hour north with rugged peaks and abundant wildlife.
Day 6-7 : Alaska
A free ferry across the Yukon River connects to the Top of the World Highway. Your drive takes you to Alaska via the Taylor Highway where you may wish to spend some time exploring.
Day 8 : Haines Junction
Drive the Alaska Highway through a breathtaking landscape to Beaver Creek, Canada’s westernmost community where you may wish to stay overnight. Continue through Burwash Landing and make a visit to the Kluane Museum of Natural History and Destruction Bay to Haines Junction.
Day 9-10 : Haines Junction
After so much driving, you may wish to relax in this wilderness town and soak in the scenery. Swim at Pine Lake or enjoy a picnic, or use the town as a base to explore Kluane National Park, home to Dall sheep, mountain goats, moose, caribou, bears and numerous species of small mammals and birds.
Day 11-12 : Carcross
The drive from Haines Junction to Carcross is one of the most scenic in the Yukon, taking you through Whitehorse before following the South Klondike Highway past lakes and forested mountains. Carcross is a charming village rich in Indigenous culture, Gold Rush history and outdoor adventure. Browse artisan shops, visit the famous Carcross Desert (often called the world’s smallest) and soak up the relaxed atmosphere.
Day 13 : Whitehorse
Drive the short distance back to Whitehorse today as you return your vehicle and check into a hotel for your final night.
Day 14 : Departure
Cross the Bighorn Mountains before arriving in Cody, founded by the legendary Buffalo Bill Cody. Spend the afternoon exploring the lively western town.
