Day 1 : UK - Arrive Winnipeg

Welcome to Winnipeg, the capital of the Canadian province of Manitoba. On arrival make your way to your downtown hotel for a two night stay.

Day 2 : Winnipeg

The city is well known for its numerous art galleries and cultural attractions. The heart is The Forks, a historic site at the intersection of the Red and Assiniboine rivers, with warehouses converted to shops and restaurants, plus ample green space dedicated to festivals, concerts, and exhibits. Nearby, the Exchange District is known for its well-preserved, early 20thcentury architecture. Visit the Canadian Museum for Human Rights or the Art Gallery, opening of QAUMAJUQ, home to the largest public collection of contemporary Inuit Art in the world. The Assiniboine Park Zoo is another attraction always worth a visit.

Day 3 : Winnipeg - Whiteshell Provincial Park (200km)

Collect your car from the downtown Avis office this morning and travel east to Whiteshell Provincial Park. On the way visit the Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach; a living museum telling the story of the Russian Mennonites in Canada. Rushing rivers, clear deep lakes and warm sandy beaches await you in Whiteshell Provincial Park, where you stay for three nights.

Day 4-5 : Whiteshell Provincial Park

Two full days are yours to explore this beautiful Provincial Park. Relax on one of the sandy beaches, hike one of the multiple trails or dive into the waters of one of the clear lakes. Experience the true Canadian Dream of relaxation and quietness.

Day 6 : Whiteshell Provincial Park - Gimli (270km)

Your destination today is Gimli on the shores of Lake Winnipeg. Lake Winnipeg is the largest lake in Manitoba and the 10th largest freshwater lake in the world. The charming town of Gimli offers beautiful long sandy beaches and is very proud of its Icelandic heritage and hosts the New Iceland Heritage Centre, well worth a visit.

Day 7 : Gimli – Hecla (100km)

Follow the shores of Lake Winnipeg northwards this morning towards Hecla Grindstone Provincial Park. Lile Gimli, Hecla was once home to immigrants from Iceland and Hecla village tells the story of these early immigrants. Explore the park, rich in flora and fauna on a bicycle tour or a hike along the coastline of Lake Winnipeg.

Day 8 : Hecla - Riding Mountain National Park (380km)

Head west today to Wasagaming in the Riding Mountain National Park for a three night stay.

Day 9-10 : Riding Mountain National Park

Riding Mountain National Park sits atop the Manitoba Escarpment and the forested parkland stands in sharp contrast to the surrounding prairie farmland. We recommend starting your day with a visit to the Riding Mountain Visitors Centre in Wasagaming. The Parks Canada staff always have the best tips where to go and what to do. The park is known for an abundance of wildlife and wildlife watching is certainly one of the top activities within the park. Don’t miss visiting the Lake Audy Bison Enclosure, which holds a captive herd of approximately 40 bison.

Day 11 : Riding Mountain National Park - Winnipeg (330km)

After 10 exciting days in the prairies, todays last leg of your journey brings you back to Winnipeg. We highly recommend a side trip to Spruce Woods Provincial Park. Quite unexpected this park protects the only sandy desert in Manitoba. Shifting sand dunes are home to cactus which survive up to -40 Celsius in the winter times.

Day 12 : Winnipeg

Drop off your rental car today, then take time to relax enjoy downtown Winnipeg before meeting the rest of your fellow polar bear enthusiasts this evening.

Day 13 : Winnipeg - Churchill

You’ll fly to Churchill this morning, the Polar Bear capital of the world. Lazy Bear Lodge for 4 nights. With 60,000 Beluga Whales filling the Hudson Bay and Polar Bears leaving the melting sea ice, summer is an amazing time to visit Churchill! Over the course of this five-day adventure experienced guides will take you to beautiful wild places that offer the very best opportunities to see Polar Bears, Beluga Whales, Arctic Sik-Siks, over 200 nesting or migrating bird species, seals, Arctic Hare, Arctic Fox, and more.

Day 14-16 : Churchill

Lazy Bear’s Captain will take you into the Hudson Bay, in a customized Transport Canada certified vessel. On this unique adventure you will explore one of the more remote Polar Bear viewing areas on the west side of Hudson Bay. Since the majority of Polar Bears are in this viewing area during the summer months, your adventure gives you the best opportunity to see Polar Bears in their summer habitat. During the summer season, Polar Bears can be seen swimming, exploring around the rocks and wildflowers, as well as sunbathing along the shore. Weather and wildlife permitting, you will have the privilege to disembark the boat, giving the amazing experience to walk where Polar Bears roam. Along the same shoreline, hundreds of Beluga Whales come to feed, mate and give birth in the warm, shallow near-coastal waters. Your Beluga Whale Boat/Fort Tour will focus on viewing the beautiful Beluga Whales in their natural habitat in the Churchill River and into the Hudson Bay area as they feed on schools of Caplin, Arctic Char and Brook Trout. We will also go ashore for a walking tour of the historic Prince of Wales Fort.

Next, you will experience a summer Tundra Tour on an Arctic Crawlers™ to view the beautiful landscape. Later that evening after a delectable supper, depending on weather and cloud coverage, it may be possible to see the Northern Lights. The Cultural and Heritage Tour takes you to Churchill and the surrounding area where you will be exploring various historic sites. These include Cape Merry, an outside tour of the Polar Bear Holding Facility, the wreckage of the famous plane, “Miss Piggy”, and many other historic sites that make Churchill the town it is today.

Day 17 : Winnipeg

You’ll leave Churchill today and fly back to Winnipeg for a final night.

Day 18-19 : Depart Winnipeg - UK

Check-in in plenty of time for you return overnight flight to the UK.
