Your Itinerary
Day 1 : UK - Delhi
On arrival in Delhi, a private transfer will take you to your hotel.
Day 2 : Delhi
This morning your local guide will meet you at your hotel for the start of your exploration of Delhi. Rich in culture and history this tour encompasses both the ancient walled city of Old Delhi and the more modern edifices of the new city. Delve into the tangle of narrow lanes, see the vivid colours of Chandni Chowk by eco-rickshaw and taste the tantalising street food. Highlights include Jama Masjid, the largest mosque of its kind in India. Built by the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan, who also constructed the Red Fort and the Taj Mahal in the 17th century, this impressive building is a vision of globe-shaped minarets, red sandstone and marble and features a vast courtyard that can accommodate up to 25,000 people. You’ll also visit the majestic Qutub Minar, a towering entity, which is spectacular as dusk falls. (B)
Day 3 : Agra
After an early breakfast transfer to the railway station for your journey aboard the Gatimaan Express train to Agra. Your guide in Delhi will escort you onto the train, and upon arrival in Agra you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Your Agra adventure starts with a tour of the Colonial Walk. Displaying a range of colonial architecture, this is a fascinating insight into the history of the city, beyond the Taj Mahal. From here move onto the simply spectacular Agra Fort, seat and stronghold of the Mughal Empire for successive generations and well deserving of its UNESCO World Heritage status. The last stop of the day is Mehtab Bagh Gardens, set along the Yamuna River, this garden complex perfectly aligns with the Taj Mahal lying on the opposite bank and your sunset visit is timed for wonderful photography opportunities. Day 4 : Taj Mahal and Ranthambore National Park
The early start this morning is well worth it. Seeing the Taj Mahal for the first time in the gentle light of dawn is truly memorable. Your guide will expertly lead you through the complex, regarded as one of the most romantic sites in the world. Following your sunrise visit, return to your hotel for breakfast. Your private driver will then collect you for the drive to Ranthambhore National Park, which takes around 5 ½ hours. Enroute there will be a short stop at Fatehpur Sikri, a world heritage site which is deemed to house one of the best-preserved collections of Mughal architecture in India. Continue to your Ranthambhore hotel. (B, D)
Day 5 : Ranthambhore National Park
Embark on the first of 2 thrilling safari drives early this morning, as you head out in search of Ranthambhore's most famous resident. Alongside tigers, the park is home to leopards, sambar deer, striped hyenas and more than 250 species of birds. After the first drive return to your hotel for breakfast and to relax before the afternoon safari drive. Expect each safari drive to last around 3 hours. (B, L, D)
Day 6 : Jaipur
Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan and famed for its abundance of terracotta hued buildings giving rise to its name ‘the Pink City.’ After breakfast in Ranthambhore enjoy a visit to the Dastakar, an NGO that was established to support traditional Indian crafts people, many of whom are women. Following an early lunch your private driver will transfer you to Jaipur, a drive of around 4 hours. This evening join your local guide for a twilight tour of the city by rickshaw and get a hands-on experience with a block printing workshop and lacquer bangle making experience. (B,L )
Day 7 : Jaipur
Today is a chance to discover the ancient capital of Amber and visit the UNESCO World Heritage listed Amber Fort. Wander past the high ramparts, many gates and cobbled paths as your guide unlocks the secrets of the fort. From here return to the city for an eco-rickshaw tour with the Pink Rickshaw Company. This unique not-for-profit organisation gives women from low-income households in the city work opportunities. There is then time to explore the City Palace, and the 18th century Jantar Matar, one of the most remarkable sites in the city. This observatory features 14 devices to measure time, track the stars and planets and remains accurate today. This evening is spent in a beautiful Indian home, it starts with a cooking demonstration before sitting down to enjoy dinner with the family. (B, D)
Day 8 : Delhi
This morning after a leisurely breakfast your driver will transfer you back to Delhi for one final night in the city. On arrival your time is free to relax, or we can organise a further experience. (B)
Day 9 : Depart
Your driver will transport you to the airport for your onward flight. (B) Why not extend your stay with time in Shimla, hill country or a tranquil experience in Kerala or on the beaches of Goa.
