Philippines TRAVEL ADVICE

Philippines Travel Advice

You will be sure to love your time in the Philippines; there is so much to explore across this diverse archipelago. From spectacular beaches and turquoise waters to vibrant cities, fascinating history and rich cultural traditions, the Philippines offers a memorable experience for every traveller.

Passports & Visas:
British citizens can currently visit the Philippines without a visa for tourism for up to 30 days. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival, and you will need to register with the Philippines' eTravel system within 72 hours before arrival. Most visitors should also have proof of onward or return travel. Entry requirements can change, so always check the latest advice before travelling.

Language & Culture:
Filipino and English are the official languages of the Philippines, while numerous regional languages are also spoken throughout the country. English is widely used, particularly in cities and tourist areas, making it relatively easy for visitors to communicate. The Philippines has a rich cultural heritage influenced by its indigenous traditions as well as Spanish, American and Asian influences.

Money & Expenses:
The Philippine Peso (PHP) is the country's official currency. Cash remains useful, particularly when travelling to smaller towns and islands, although credit and debit cards are widely accepted in hotels, larger restaurants and shops in major tourist areas. ATMs are available in cities and larger towns, but it is advisable to carry some local currency when travelling to more remote destinations.

Local Transport:
Travelling around the Philippines involves a combination of domestic flights, ferries, buses, taxis and local transport such as jeepneys and tricycles. With thousands of islands spread across the archipelago, domestic flights are often the most convenient way to cover longer distances, while ferries are useful for travelling between many of the islands. Your holiday itinerary can be arranged to make travelling between destinations as straightforward as possible.
