Annual Climate

New Zealand is famed for its rugged natural beauty, stunning green landscapes and variety of excursions, making it a perfect year-round destination no matter the adventure.

Based in the Southern Hemisphere, New Zealand’s seasons are pretty much opposite to ours! Whilst we defrost our windscreens, New Zealanders are kicking back relaxing on the beach.

Aotearoa’s climate ranges from subtropical in the far north, to snowy in the deep south – every season is spectacular in its on right. The summer months (Dec-Mar) bring warm, longer sunny days, making it the ideal time to explore the outdoors across beaches, waters and incredible hiking trails.

Autumn (Mar-May) and Spring (Sep-Nov) bring milder weather with fewer crowds and great off-peak deals. In autumn, darker skies create celestial wonder with stargazing while the waters make for great wildlife spotting with the chance to see migrating whales. Spring offers up blooming gardens and active adventures, including the start of the Great Walks Season.

In Winter (Jun-Aug) you’re likely to see snow in the South Island, and some of the mountainous areas in the North Island – perfect for skiers or for those wanting to unwind in geothermal hot pools!
